Recovering From A Weight Loss Setback

The dreaded weight loss setback….it happens to each of us at least once on our weight loss journey. We go on vacation have a great time only to come back and step on the scale. When we do, we’ve gained back some weight and are disappointed. Or, you could be an emotional eater who is going through a personal crisis that results in added pounds.

Dealing with a weight loss setback is a part of weight loss and probably happens to everyone at one time or another. There is probably never a time when everything in our life went according to plan. If it does then you need to write a book and let the rest of us know the trick. Assuming that it has not, it is something that we must learn to deal with or it can really bring you down and keep you there.

When this setback occurs you must make a choice between struggling to recover and continuing to slide back into old habits. Before the choice is made, we must realize something about ourselves. It’s okay to slip up. Forgive yourself and forget that it ever happened.

Once you decide to struggle and recover, try to discover what caused the setback in the first place. The answer will help you to avoid repeating the same pattern again. A common cause of setbacks in weight loss is emotional eating. Unfortunately, you don’t find out that you are an emotional eater until you get emotional and begin to eat.

This is not considered normal eating. Emotional eaters eat to relieve stress. You don’t have to be hungry. The act of eating something that pleases you releases those same “feel good” endorphins as exercise. It’s a cruel joke, I know, but there it is. The trick is to pinpoint emotional eating before you’ve gained too much weight.

Find someone to lose weight along with you. They will be able to encourage you and also tell you when you seem to be heading towards another weight loss setback. They can also be helpful by telling you the truth and not just what you want to hear and in turn you can do the same for them. By pointing out the good attributes to someone else, you will learn to do it for yourself.

When it comes to struggling and dealing with weight loss and the inevitable setbacks that come with it, it is never pleasant. As you battle back, your mind may tell you that you messed up. Learn to ignore it by replacing that negative feedback with positive words of encouragement. Accentuate the positive things about yourself. Are you a star at your job? Tell yourself how good you are at what you do. If you have kids, bask in the knowledge that you are a great mom or dad.

Being on a diet and dealing with a Weight loss setback is a process. Even when you lose the weight, you must work to maintain that loss and continue to be healthy and fit. Don’t give up early in the game. Learn to deal with setbacks and get on with working towards your weight loss goals.

There is nothing worse then slowly watching you belly get bigger and bigger and your clothes getting tighter and tighter until they no longer fit. Belly fat is the cash cow of the weight loss industry because every body’s health, fitness and attractiveness are judged by it. For many people that layer of belly fat sneaks up on them, growing slowly as the years pass, for others it can be a more sudden occurrence, but no matter how it got there it can become an obsession to get rid of it.

The vast majority of people who go on “Diets” cut way back on their food intake and therefore greatly decrease the amount of calories they consume. What they don’t realize when they do this is that the body reacts to this decrease in calories by slowing its metabolism in order to conserve its energy stores, in this case fat storage.

It’s the type and amount of calories that are the culprit in most excess weight situations. By cutting calories the body isn’t getting the energy or nutrition it needs. The key is to eat complex carbohydrates such as are found in fruits, vegetables and whole grain breads. It takes more energy for the body to digest and process the calories and nutrients from healthy food then from the more processed and refined foods found on supermarket shelves today.

2. Core Strengthening Exercises - You must exercise and strengthen all your core muscles, not just your abs, if you want that firm toned midsection. It is also important that you weight train your major muscle groups including you legs and back. By exercising the largest muscle groups you will burn more calories then if you just focus on you abdominal muscles.

3. Cardio/Aerobic Training - The key to getting rid of fat is burning more calories than you take in. Aerobic training combined with the tips above does just that. If you want to get rid of belly fat then get up off the couch and go for a walk, take a bike ride, or play some hoops. Just be sure to enjoy whatever form of exercise you are doing and keep doing it.

Weight training and aerobic exercise increases the demand for more calories simply because the body is using more energy not only during the work out but also post work out.

Building a stronger cardiovascular system with aerobic exercise and adding lean muscle mass with weight training will go along ways towards an increase in metabolism. Not only does lean muscle require more calories, even at rest, it also helps to increase enzymes in your body that burn fat. Because of the need for a fit body to consume more calories to maintain its current condition there really is no better way to increase your metabolism then through exercise.

If you seriously want to get rid of that extra belly fat then you will need to increase your metabolism to help burn away those excess fat stores. Liposuction Vs Lipodissolve for Fat Removal

If you have decided to get rid of those fat areas that diet and exercise just won’t, there are different methods of fat removal available today. The question is which one is right for you? It may be tempting to think that lipoDissolve which offers low cost and no recovery time is best, but let’s examine the differences between the fat removal methods available.

Traditional liposuction is still the gold standard to which all other methods of fat removal must be compared. Done through small incisions near where the fat is to be removed, a small thin hollow tube (cannula, about the width of a pencil or less)) is placed underand the dislodg the skin. By moving the cannula in and out repetitively, fat is broken loose and then vacuumed out. This is the preferred method among board certified plastic surgeons for removing larger amounts of fat tissue and has been used in the United States for almost thirty years.All liposuction today is done with the tumescent or wet technique which keeps blood loss to only about 1% of the total fat removed. Liposuctioned fat volumes removed today are kept around five or six liters in a single operation to keep the risk of complications low. Serious side effects with liposuction are very rare. Skin irregularities are the most common issue seen after liposuction surgery but that problem can be minimized in experienced surgical hands. Very good results can be obtained in the neck, stomach, waistline, outer thighs, and knees. More modest results are seen in the arms, back, inner thighs, and buttocks.

Liposuction done with the aid of a laser, also known as Smart Lipo, is one of the newer FDA-approved types of liposuction. A laser is inserted through tiny incisions in the skin. When the laser is fired, it melts the fat purportably tightening the skin at the same time. Smart Lipo has not been proven to produce better results than traditional liposuction but may be an alternative for removing smaller fat areas. This is certainly the way it is currently being sold, particularly to non-plastic surgeons which make up a significant percent of the targeted market. Because the removed fat volume is more limited, serious side effects are unlikely. Smart Lipo to be real advantage, to me, is whether it can be used in the office under local anesthesia for smaller fat problems. This is where it would offer an advantage over traditional liposuction.

Lipodissolve, also known as injection lipolysis, uses a mixture of emulsifying chemicals (lecithin and cholic acid) which are injected under the skin to the targeted fat areas. This is a non-FDA approved treatment method although in my experience has proven to be safe. I have not seen any of the complications that are widely reported. Lipodissolve should not be viewed as a comparative treatment method to liposuction. It is best viewed as a fat removal technique when any form of liposuction is a bigger solution than the problem justifies. It is done as a series of injection done in the office over three or four months.I have found that it works well for small fat areas in the neck, jowls, bra rolls, stomach, flanks, thighs, and knees. Small areas, no bigger than the size of a hand, is the concept of a treatable fat area. Liposuction, like all plastic surgery, is an issue of value…what result do you get for what you pay. It is also a great method to touch-up any excess areas of fat after a liposuction procedure.

Since liposuction and lipodissolve remove fat by different methods (mechanical vs. chemical), they are best used for differently-sized fat issues. LipoDissolve is for small fat areas that are not worth a surgical effort, whereas larger fat areas still require traditional liposuction.

What is the Significance Fat Percentage in Body

Losing “weight” as such does not give you any real information. If you are trying to lose fat then your weight is not the most important factor at all. The goal of most people is to lose weight but the real goal should be losing fat and gaining muscle. The only way how you can really know if you are losing fat is to determine your fat to muscle ratio.

Most bodybuilders and fitness models know that muscle is the secret to losing fat. Muscle is like a furnace that burns calories. The more muscle you have the more calories you burn. So not only does muscle look good, it also burns a lot of calories. It is easy to lose weight but very hard to lose fat while keeping the muscle.

If you want to be accurate then you have to forget about Height & weight charts and Body Mass Index also because they don´t take your body fat into account. To get a real indicator of your current health you have to measure your body fat. If you know your body fat then you also know your fat to muscle ratio. and that is what we want to know.

There are many different methods how to measure body fat: Underwater Weighing (Hydrostatic), Bio- Electric Impedance Analysis, BIA Body Fat Scales and hand grip tests, Infrared, Circumference, Anthropometric and skin-fold measurements. The best way and also a cheap way to measure your body fat is using the skin-fold measuring method. You can do it yourself as well in your own home.

It is good to know your body fat number but by itself it is not very useful. The goal is to separate your total weight into pounds of fat and pounds of muscle.

Here is an example:

The body-weight is 175 pounds

The fat percentage is 21% (0.21)

Then you multiply the body-weight with the fat percentage:

175 * 0.21= 36.75 pounds of fat.

If you subtract pounds of fat from the total weight you get:

175 - 36.75= 138.25 pounds of lean body mass

You can also find out what your ideal weight is.The formula is: Lean mass divided by 1 - ideal body fat percentage. Lets use this example again.

175 pounds

fat percentage is 21%

36.75 pounds of fat

138.25 pounds of lean body mass

ideal body fat percentage is 14% (1 - 0.14= 0.86)

Using this formula we get:

138.25 : 0.86= 160.75 pounds

So the ideal weight with 14% of body fat would be 160.75 pounds. If you use this method you will get a much more feed back and you can also make changes according to your results.
